Introducing Alicia Wietholter & the Laney Hobo Bag!

We’re kicking off 2015 with a brand new addition to our project designer team and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Please welcome the incredibly talented Alicia Wietholter of Swoon Patterns!![insert welcome applause here] Alicia is known for her easy-to-follow patterns that produce classic, wearable, and super stylish handbags. She is a graphic designer by trade and started sewing about 10 years ago when her mom randomly gave her a sewing machine. She took off running and really never looked back!

alicia-swoonAlicia learned to sew clothing and bags using commercial paper patterns, which are traditionally populated with diagrams rather than photos. Though she sometimes found it frustrating, she felt it was the best way to learn and chose to carry that feature over into her own patterns, with a beautifully designed update, of course! The resulting patterns are incredibly comprehensive, excellent for beginners just getting their footing, but also perfect for a more experienced sewist who might use the pattern as a base for more extensive personalization.

I’ve been a fan of Alicia and Swoon Patterns for a while now and know I’m not alone. (I’ve even fielded a handful of emails over my years at Pellon® from a few of her fans telling me that she should be a project designer!) I stumbled across her post on which Pellon® interfacings she uses a few months ago (the link now lives on our media page) and in a lovely twist of fate got an email from Alicia about a week later, inquiring about how we might collaborate. I’m so thrilled that it all came together and am pleased to present Alicia’s first FREE pattern for Pellon® — The Laney Hobo Bag!!

About Alicia:
I’m a graphic designer by trade and fell in love with sewing many years ago. I think it was a natural path for me to mesh the two and start drafting my own sewing patterns. There’s nothing I like sewing together more than bags, so that’s mostly what I do! I am not much for frills, ruffles, or an obvious “homemade” look (much to the dismay of my 7 year old), so my patterns create bags that are simple, clean and easily modified by the advanced bag-maker.
