Pellon® is a not just a brand – it’s a way of life. Ask any quilter and she’ll tell you which Pellon® products she relies on day in and day out. We take pride in our history and the fact that we’ve been the leading innovator in the areas of home sewing, quilting, crafting and fiber art for the past 50 years. Our products contain top quality fibers made through state-of-the-art processing. Yes, we are best known for our non-wovens, but we do have an ever-expanding product line, including woven, knit, tricot, weft and natural fiber products for our customers. We are proud of our products and do our best to support the artists that use them on a daily basis. We are proud to be Pellon®.
In the 1930s, Dr. Carl Nottebohm, a Freudenberg researcher in Weinheim, Germany, was developing new backing materials when he discovered a method of manufacturing textiles directly from fibers – creating non-woven textiles. To describe the new technology, the name Pellon® was created. ‘PEL‘ was taken from ‘pelos’, the Spanish word for hair since interfacing was primarily made from hair canvas. ‘LON’ comes from nylon, the first synthetic fiber and a key component in the new fabrics. In 1950, Pellon® interfacings were introduced in the United States. The new materials were resilient, lightweight and lint free and they forever changed the textile and apparel industry. Soon after its introduction, the name Pellon® was synonymous with nonwoven fabrics.
Pellon® brand products are distributed in the United States and Canada through the PCP Group LLC (Pellon® Consumer Products) in Saint Petersburg, FL. We continue to be the industry leader in the interfacing category. We have interfacings for apparel, home craft & décor, quilting and fusible webs. The majority of Pellon® interfacings are non-woven. Non-wovens are made directly from fibers that are bonded together using several different methods to form a “fabric”. Other Pellon® interfacings are woven, knit, or weft inserted. We have recently expanded our offerings to include product lines such as Lutradur® for fiber artists and Legacy™ Batting Products for quilting applications. We offer a wide range of batting with materials from Cotton to Wool, Bamboo to Soy, and Polyester to Rayon. Legacy™ is known as an industry leader and has quickly become the go-to batting for both new and advanced quilters and sewers.
We are always researching new and innovative products and are now expanding into the areas of bedding, pet and fiberfill. New products are integral to how Pellon® helps its customers and we are committed to the ongoing pursuit of innovative products and materials.
We launched Pellon Projects in 2011 with a few primary goals: to provide a source of online inspiration for quilters, crafters and sewers; to offer tips & techniques for using our products; and to educate users on the wide range of products that we carry. We’ve been working hard to accomplish all three, a process which is ongoing, ever-evolving and always exciting. We feature well-known artists who offer free downloadable tutorials ranging in skill from beginner to advanced. Projects are available in a number of categories including quilts, bags, kitchen, accessories, apparel, holiday, and children’s items. We offer a full product section with detailed information about all of our offerings from interfacings to battings to specialty products and more. If you’re looking to find our products, we have a list of shops that carry Pellon® products.
Well, it would be wonderful to have more Pellon products. I have been using Pellon products for my sewing and crafting for over 46 years! I know, a long time! My first use was for the interfacing on the dark green bell bottom pants and the jacket to match! I have always had dependable use of your products. 🙂
