A Handmade Holiday 2013 — Yule Log Cake Placecard


Our final project for our Handmade Holiday series is here! The Holiday season is traditionally a time to celebrate with family & friends. Many gather for big meals, parties and more. Why not bring your holiday table a touch of class this season with personalized placecards? Alexandra Henry of Alexa’s World has put together a super simple tutorial making it easy to make a few sets tonight for your celebrations over the next few days. Happy Holidays!!



Yule Log Cake Placecard
Add a touch of elegance to your holiday table with these fusible applique placecards. Use Vinyl-Fuse™ to create a slip-in pocket for the name cards.

Materials List
— Fat eighth of fabric for placecard background
— 1/3 yard fabric for bottom border and backing
— Scraps of cotton fabric for the applique
— 1/8 yard Pellon® 100 Vinyl-Fuse™
— 1/3 yard Pellon® 71F Peltex® I Ultra-Firm 1-Sided Fusible
— 2 sheets Pellon® EZ25S Lite EZ Steam® II
— Thread to match applique
— Dark brown thread
— White Thread
— Three 5mm hot x crystals

Tools List
— Sewing machine and related supplies
— Rotary cutter and related supplies
— Wonder Clips (optional)

BioPhotoAlexandraHenry-edit1Alexandra Henry is an award winning needle artist. She has been an avid quilter and needle artist since childhood. Her first quilt, made when she was 5 years old, was a crazy quilt. She also paints watercolors, portraits and pen and ink drawings. Alexandra designed needlework, including pulled thread and hardangar designs for many years before she started producing her own quilt patterns and books. She incorporates needlework in many of her quilt designs. Alexandra uses many Pellon® products, including fusible interfacing for clothing, Wonder-Web® and Wonder-Under® for applique, tear-away and fusible stabilizers for machine embroidery and Legacy™ by Pellon® Batting for quilts. She loves the quality, ease of use, and flexibility of Pellon® products.

Alexandra started teaching needlework and quilting while in her twenties and has taught classes all over the country. She is currently teaching at the local quilt shop in her community.
