2013 Winter Mystery Quilt-A-Long Finale!

winterQAL

We began a mystery Quilt-A-Long back in January of this year. We had 3 brave participants who had no idea what challenges they would face from month to month. They handled different methods of piecing and embroidery with ease and grace and it was an absolute pleasure to follow along with their progress from one month to the next. We enjoyed featuring their developing quilts and hope that you all enjoyed the process.

Before moving further, we need to issue an apology. We had planned to post the winners and feature these gorgeous quilts back at the beginning of October, but our primary online correspondent (that would be me, Erin) had her darling baby girl a few weeks early and some of her best laid plans were lost in the process. This announcement is therefore incredibly delayed, but no less sincere. We want to thank our three participants — Kim, Kathrie & Brenda — for hanging in there, for following along, and for creating 3 beautiful works of art. We are truly honored to have worked with you!

We also have to send a huge thank you to Kona Bay Fabrics for working with us on this Quilt-A-Long. If you were following along with the monthly patterns, you know that our designer, Alexandra Henry, used all Kona Bay fabrics for her quilt (top shown below.)

If you’d like to go back and take a peek at the monthly progress on our blog before viewing the final quilts, follow these links:

Now, without further pause, it’s time to announce our first place winner, selected with the help of random.org. Congratulations to Kathrie!! Kathrie’s quilt is stunning and we’re in love with the colors that she used. So classic and striking and the perfect representation of Winter. We’d love to curl up by the fire in this one;).

In second place, we have Kim! Check out Kim’s feathered quilting in the center panel. Gorgeous!! And those colors — so vibrant! They make us feel all warm and cozy!

We didn’t get to see Brenda’s finished quilt, but she put so much work in, we just had to show her final quilt top here. Her colors give a modern vibe and we can only imagine that the finished piece will be incredibly striking.

The 2013 Winter Mystery Quilt A Long

winterQAL

We are SO excited to introduce the 2013 Winter Mystery Quilt A Long! We know it may seem a bit early to start on a holiday quilt, but if we get going now, we’re pretty much guaranteed a brand new, gorgeous, awe-inspiring quilt just in time to wow family and friends for Christmas 2013;). The QAL was designed by Alexandra Henry of Alexa’s World exclusively for Pellon®. She’ll walk you through 6 different patterns that cover various techniques like foundation piecing, embroidery, & quilting.

Alexandra used Kona Bay Fabrics and we’d encourage you to take a peek at their site to browse some of the stunning designs they carry. We’ll be partnering with Kona Bay for 6 small giveaways throughout the QAL, culminating in one big giveaway at the very end. To enter-to-win in the giveaways, simply complete the design released each month and submit an image to our Flickr Pool. We will randomly select one winner for each part. The final giveaway will be based on completed quilt submissions to the Flickr Pool and winners will be selected by a panel of judges, yet to be determined. See below for the schedule and have fun!!
